Forced Migration Film | 3/13/25 7pm

Please join us for a screening of "Forced Migration"(21 minutes) and a talk-back afterwards. Refreshments will be available, the bar will be open AND you might get a chance to try some moves from the project.

ABOUT THE FILM

"Forced Migrations" uses theater, dance, music, poetry and the voices of immigrants as a way to start a conversation in various communities about the topic of forced migration and anti-immigrant attitudes. The footage comes from live performances in Schwedt, Germany made in July of 2023.

There is a refugee crisis in the world today and not just at the borders of the United States. The British newspaper The Guardian recently reported that: “According to the latest Conflict Intensity Index, the proportion of the world engulfed by conflict has grown 65% over the last three years. The global refugee population increased by 7% to 43.4 million last year and as of June 2024 an estimated 122.6 million people around the world were forced to flee their homes."

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Ferolyn Angell is the daughter of a refugee. She is a Dance artist who has lived in West Central Minnesota since 1984. Her mother was forced to flee Germany in 1939 and was never able to return to her home. This reality has haunted Ferolyn's entire life. As a Dance artist she has taken up the threads of this universal story in the film “crossings....moves”. The film is based on a collaboration and performances that took place in her mother's home town of Schwedt, Germany. During the summer of 2023, a group of artists, refugees and immigrants came together to create an event using dance, music and theater to share stories about forced migration.
